Boo! Happy Halloween!

It is Halloween! :)  I arrived back in Stuttgart last night from Paris, France. While in France I visited the Effel tower, Notre Dame, the aquarium, the Louve and versailles as well as many other places. I had a crepe from a street stand was delicious. I am currently working on uploading pictures and updating this website for you! Today I am going to explore the town of Stuttgart, where I am staying. There are many little shops and things to explore. Tonight the group of us studying over here is going to our professors apartment for some american dinner and then we are attending a costume party where eight of us will be dressed as Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. (pictures will be posted)  Tomorrow is a holiday in Germany and I will be visiting the Mercedes museum which is about 30 minutes from where I am staying. I will post pictures of that as well.

Last week Thursday we made a school visit to Erdmanhausen, which is an elementary school about an hour from our dorms. The school is named after the author of Pippi longstocking. Pictures were already posted with captions to tell you about the school. The way things are taught is different as well as the way students act in the hallway. When going to lunch or recess or anywhere outside of their classroom they don't have to walk in lines or be quiet in the hallway. The school motto is let kids be kids. That motto is definitely in effect at the school. It was interesting to watch the students travel in the hallway and interact at recess.

I hope everyone is doing well. I will be back to the states in 20 days! see everyone soon! :)

Hey everyone!

So the train strike that was happening here is over. The trains will be running normally which is good because tomorrow I am going to visit an elementary school in Germany. We will be visiting Edmunnhausen school, which is an elementary school that was based off of the book about pippy longstocking. I will take pictures to show you what a German classroom and students look like. Pictures will be posted probably on Monday or Tuesday. I will also be posting pictures from my week in London, Rome, Venice and Milan. Tomorrow night after the school visit I will be taking the bullet train to Paris, France. The bullet train is a train that goes up to 200 miles per hour. I will be leaving Germany around 7:00pm and getting to Paris about 10:00pm tomorrow night. I will make sure to take pictures of Paris and upload those as well on Tuesday.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and a great weekend. I will be posting again on soon and pictures will be up Monday or Tuesday.

There are only 24 days left on my adventure in Europe, I will keep everyone updated on where I am traveling to next.

See you guy soon! :)

Well, I have made it half way through the week. We have been working in collaboration with German college students. We have been working closely together in order to learn about how German schools are different than American schools. This is done at the university we are studying and taking classes at. There have been many similarities and differences between theories in education between the two countries. While the majority is similarities, there are a few differences such as the way children get to and from school.  Overall I have learned lots and hope to be able to show you what I have learned once I get back to the states.

Starting Saturday we have a week off oThis weekend I am off to London on Saturday through Wednesday and then Wednesday through the following Monday I will be traveling within Italy. I will update when I get the chance. Hope everyone has been doing well!

See you soon! :)

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday myself and seven others embarked on an adventure to Cologne, Germany. Cologne is the oldest city in Germany, over 2000 years of history. Cologne is located right along the Rhine river. We took the bullet train, a train that travels at over 200 miles per hour. It took us about three hours to get from Stuttgart to Cologne. There were many historical things to see and do in Cologne. Upon arrival we took a bathroom break, which was an adventure in itself. In Germany you have to pay to use the public restrooms. It cost us one euro (about $1.35). I took a picture of the place where we had to put our money and the people around us looked at me as if I was crazy. We then walked out of the train station and saw the cathedral that cologne is famous for. The cathedral used to be the tallest church in Germany until a different cathedral was built in Barcelona, Spain. Once we explored the cathedral we had a chocolate pasty at the local bakery. The eight of us went on an hour and a half walking tour that gave us the highlights of the historical town. I learned a lot of information from this tour. We saw the building where the very first cologne and perfume were made. The first sent made did not smell very good but the new ones that have come out smell pretty good. We also saw the 4711 building where the rival cologne company has their headquarters and also sells perfume.
After the walking tour we had dinner at this little German restaurant. We ate outside even though it was a cloudy and cold day with a few short rain showers. The outside of the restaurant had tables set up under a awning with blankets on the chairs for us to use to keep warm as well as there were heaters at every table. It was different to sit outside in the cold and cloudy weather for lunch but it was a lot of fun.
After we had some lunch we went to the lindt chocolate factory. It was really neat to see how chocolate is made, we were able to read about the history of chocolate and how it is made from the coco beans. We also watched the machines pour the chocolate into the molds and then become packaged for shipping. After the chocolate factory we tried to take a cable car across the Rhine river but by the time we walked down there the cars had stopped for the day. We took pictures and then went back into center center and relaxed with a hot chocolate while waiting for our train to take us back to Stuttgart.

This week we have collaboration week which is where myself and the group I came with will be working together with a group of German students. We will be teaching each other about math and reading and discussing the differences between the United States and Germany when teaching.

Saturday morning I leave for London for four days. I will update before I leave and I will try to update while in London but I can't make any promises. Hope everyone has a good week and I hope to hear from

We have officially been living in Stuttgart, Germany for ten days. We have done lots of traveling already, keeping ourselves busy and trying to avoid jet lag. We have already traveled to many different places. We left from Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday September 26th. When we landed in Munich, Germany it was Tuesday September 27th. Germany is six hours ahead of North Carolina, so it took some adjusting to the time difference. Once we landed we took another shorter flight to Stuttgart where we dropped off our luggage and then went on our way taking a train back to Munich. On Wednesday we went to Oktoberfest, which is a giant carnival that happens once a year at the end of September. Thursday we then went on to Dachau,Germany which is where a concentration camps is located. A concentration camp is a working camp where people were sent during World War 2 because of their religious views or family history, a lot of families were separated upon arrival of the camp. On Friday we traveled to the Zugspitze which is a mountain that is the highest point in Germany. We took a cable car to the top of the mountain and were able to eat lunch on top. I was brave enough to climb the mountain up higher than were we ate. The view was amazing. We also went to see the Neuschwanstein castle, this castle was the castle that inspired Walt Disney to create the famous Disney castle. The castle itself was home to King  Ludwig the second. He never actually lived in the house as he died before the castle was finished.

Monday October third was a German Holiday, it is their reunification day between the eastern and western parts of Germany. We were able to take a tour of the Ludwigsburg castle which was really cool. There is a connection between the Ludwigsburg castle and Mecklenburg county because of the name Charlotte. Charlotte was the name of the kings mistress.

Tomorrow I am off to Cologne which is in Northern Germany. I will make another post once I get back! Hope everyone has a good weekend! :)
